About

Built by someone who lived the problem.

Twenty years of deadline-heavy work ran me through every system in this gallery. None of them showed me the weeks ahead. So I built the one that does.

/01 The weeks ahead

Why I built it.

I spent those years on submissions, reports, reviews and presentations, many at once, with new dates every week. Every system I tried kept the dates well. It couldn't show me the two weeks where four of them fell due together, and I found those weeks each time by walking into them.

Deadlinewatch is the tool I wanted for those weeks. It keeps every deadline in one list, soonest first, and shows the same deadlines across the weeks ahead, so you see a heavy stretch while there is still time to plan around it. It carries what twenty years of those weeks taught me, for anyone carrying the same load.

/02 The research

The thinking behind it.

A handful of dates is easy to picture. In 1956 George Miller put working memory at about seven items, and later research puts it nearer four. Past that handful, the dates stop reading as a list. They become a lump of uneven weights you brace for without quite looking, and your mind keeps sorting it in the background while you try to work.

I took four rules from that and built Deadlinewatch on them. Put the weight on the screen, so you stop carrying it. Show the shape of the weeks as well as the order of the dates. Describe, don't direct, because you know which deadline matters most. And tell the truth about your week, even when the week is a hard one.
